Our Finances

Find out how your support sustains CAUK, what your donations fund, how we are funded, and how together we are helping around 1,200 people each year while driving progress towards a cure.

As a small charity funded mainly by our community of supporters, we care deeply about being open and transparent about how every penny is used.

Our accounts are independently checked to make sure they are accurate and meet charity standards before being submitted to the Charity Commission here.

Every year we directly help around 1,200 people through our helpline, counselling, buddying, conference, webinars and meet-ups. We also work with our Medical Advisory Board and leading universities to drive forward research and progress towards a cure.

This year we need to raise £120,000 to continue and grow this work. Below you can read what your donations fund and how we are funded. To get in touch email admin@cavernoma.org.uk.

What your donations fund

We work hard to keep our costs low and make the most of our amazing volunteers. But even with over 50 people giving their time freely, there are still important costs involved in providing training, DBS checks and ongoing support so they can offer reliable, understanding peer-to-peer help to others affected by cavernoma.

Your donations also fund our small staff team of four part-time people (equivalent to two full-time) who coordinate our services and lead vital work on research and clinical information. This includes working with scientists, clinicians and industry partners to push research forward, ensuring studies reflect the needs of people living with cavernoma, and keeping our website and resources accurate and up to date so our community can access trusted information and guidance.

How we are funded

Most of our income comes from our community. Supporters raise money through events like runs, walks and our Annual Snowdon Climb for Cavernoma, which in 2025 brought together over 80 people both in person and online. These events raise vital funds and awareness across the UK.

We also receive grants from charitable trusts and foundations, including the National Lottery Community Fund and AxIOM Neuromonitoring. With grants becoming harder to secure, we are especially grateful for this support.

Regular monthly donations are vital too. If every one of our 4,200 members gave less than £30 a year, CAUK would be fully funded. Please consider setting up a regular gift to help protect our future – click here to donate.

Any questions?

We’re always happy to answer any questions you may have about how we manage our funds. You can contact our Charity Manager, who looks after CAUK’s day-to-day finances, or our Chair or Treasurer, who are volunteer Trustees and work with the Board to set the charity’s budget and oversee spending.

Whichever way you prefer to get in touch, please email admin@cavernoma.org.uk and we’ll make sure your message reaches the right person.
