Navigating the recent COVID-19 pandemic since the beginning of 2020 has been a tricky period for us all; for every person and organisation, in every sector, in every country across the world. We’ve all been affected by the huge changes in how we live and how we operate, as humans and as organisation. CAUK, and the small charity sector, is no different. CAUK prides itself in offering a multitude of essential support services for those affected by cavernoma – including patients, family members and carers – all completely free of charge (list of services pictured below).
Unfortunately, these vital services that help so many are now at risk.
The Covid-19 pandemic has played a significant role in radically reshaping the work we do. Our team has worked tirelessly to respond to the crisis, and we’ve been able to successfully adapt and expand our services to cater for the growing number of people seeking information and support. We have been fundamental in bridging the gap in care for those awaiting, or facing cancellations of important treatments and consultations as a result of Covid-19.
The demand for our services has been far higher than ever. In the calendar year of 2021 we attended thousands upon thousands of enquiries, many from newly diagnosed patients and helped hundreds of people struggling with their condition, or that of a family member. As time passes, our member base and those seeking our support only continues to grow. In 2021 alone the cost of providing support to our members totalled £130,000.
Typically, roughly half of our income is raised by appropriate grants from allocating bodies. Unfortunately, more and more charities and organisations are applying for these grants in these challenging post-COVID times and it is proving more and more difficult to raise the funds in the same way we have been able to in the past. As a result, our income is currently £30,000 less than we had anticipated at this stage in the year.
That’s why WE NEED YOUR HELP! While the team continues to actively apply for grants, even if we are successful the associated funds will not come through until the autumn.
We are at a critical point where, unless we manage to raise £30,000 by the end of August to cover the shortfall, there will be little option but to significantly reduce our services to members. We do not want this to happen. We believe we can do it.
Now more than ever, we urge all of our members to join our plight and participate in this collective fundraising effort. Together we can SAVE YOUR SERVICES.
There are lots of ways you can help.
